What is Candida?

Candida Albicans is an opportunistic fungus (or form of yeast) that is the cause of many undesirable symptoms ranging from fatigue and weight gain, to joint pain and gas.

The Candida yeast is a part of the gut flora, a group of microorganisms that live in your mouth and intestine. When the Candida population starts getting out of control it weakens the intestinal wall, penetrating through into the bloodstream and spreading throughout the body.

What Causes Candidas?
 

Candida and Stress

Stress affects your body in two ways, both of which can lead to excess Candida. One of your body's first reactions to a stressful situation is to release Cortisol, a hormone that depresses your immune system and raises your blood sugar level.

The Candida yeast feeds on the extra sugar, while your weakened immune system is powerless to stop it. Quickly it overpowers the balanced mixture of microorganisms in your small intestine.

Mercury in your Fillings

Silver amalgam fillings contain at least 50% mercury, and this is poisonous to the body. Mercury particles and vapor are continuously released in the body as you chew, grind and brush your teeth.

Mercury significantly weakens the immune system and can be the cause of many health problems. One of these is Candida. The mercury leaks from the dental fillings and kills the friendly bacteria in your gut, allowing Candida to take over.

There is no safe level of mercury to have in your system, so keeping it in your mouth is definitely a bad idea. If you can afford it, do take charge of your health and have them replaced.

Candida and Diabetes

Candida is just one of many conditions that Diabetes can bring about, and diabetic women are particularly susceptible to any yeast infection. An elevated blood sugar level feeds the Candida yeast, allowing it grow quickly and dominate the other microorganisms in your gut.

Worm and Parasites

Worm and parasites can get into your intestinal system, causing disturbances to the healthy bacteria and allowing Candida to grow.   • Non-organic food like meat or eggs can also contain residual levels of antibiotics and steroids that were used during the farming process

  • Even decaf tea and coffee are to be avoided, as they contain residual levels of caffeine

Anything made with wheat, rye, oats or barley, e.g. white bread, rye bread, pasta

Spelt products

  • Some Candida sufferers have high sensitivity to Glutens
  • Give your immune system a break and allow it to focus on the Candida

NUTS

Nuts that are high in mold, e.g. peanuts

  • Ingesting mold can promote a Candida outbreak
  • Nuts that were cracked a long time ago, for example sliced almonds, also have time to develop mold
  • If you like nuts, stick to freshly cracked or whole ones

MUSHROOMS / MOLDS

Mushrooms

  • Candida loves to feed on mold and fungi
  • Leftover food can contain mold that will feed your Candida
  • If you can't buy fresh, keep leftovers frozen and then cook on a high heat in the oven (not the microwave)

  • Stay away from the soft drinks too
  • Read food labels to make sure your food doesn't contain sugar
  • Sweeteners can also make your Candida worse
  • Sugar-free diet coke can feed your Candida as much as a sugary soft drink

VINEGAR

All vinegars, except for Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Vinegar is made in a yeast culture, depletes the stomach of acids and can also cause inflammation in your gut
  • One particular vinegar, unfiltered apple cider vinegar, can actually be helpful in combating yeast

FATS AND OILS

Peanut oil

Cottonseed oil

Corn oil

Canola oil

Soy oil

Margarine

Shortening

  • Peanut, Cottonseed, Corn and Canola oil are mold contaminated
  • Most soy beans used in soy oil are GMO (if you really like it that's OK, but make sure you buy organic)
  • Margarine/Shortening contain toxic trans fats





Recipie: Anti-Candida

Macadamia Nut Dip

Macadamia nut dip

Suitable for Stages 1, 2 and 3 of the diet.

1 cup Macadamia nuts (soaked for around 2 hours)
1 large tomato, either quickly steamed or roasted until a little soft
1/3 cup fresh basil leaves
1 garlic clove
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 lemon squeeze
Salt to taste
